Weary travelers. You've seen them -- everything they own crammed into their luggage. Staggering through terminals and hotel lobbies with overstuffed suitcases, trunks, duffels, and backpacks.
Backs ache. Feet burn. Eyelids droop.
We've all seen people like that.
At times, we are people like that -- if not with our physical luggage, then at least with our spiritual load.
We all lug loads we were never intended to carry. Fear. Worry. Discontent. No wonder we get so weary. We're worn out from carrying that excess baggage. Wouldn't it be nice to lose some of those bags?
That's the invitation of Max Lucado. With the Twenty-third Psalm as our guide, let's release some of the burdens we were never intended to bear.
Using these verses as a guide, Max Lucado walks us through a helpful inventory of our burdens. May God use this Psalm to remind you to release the burdens you were never meant to bear.

"This book is a "modern day" explanation of the 23rd Psalm. I highly recommend it for all youth and adults. It can be read straight through or one chapter at a time, skipping around. It makes an excellent gift to someone who is laden with various of life's burdens. Max Lucado has a fresh and many times, humorous way of writing. He is definitely my favorite Christian author!"

Traveling Light Max Lucado 9780849913457 Books Reviews
- This book is an amazing book and will give you perspective in life. Max Lucado has really gone out of his way to make all of us who choose to read this book really look into what is important. This book is extremely uplifting and gives hope. I have reached a point in my life where I depend on uplifting reading due to what I would describe as a really messed up sense of tragedy in my family.
This book along with the Bible are helping me through what many would believe to be the impossible. When one experiences so much loss and so much pain in life, Only God can lead the way. I was drawn to this book simply due to the fact that it could bring hope and it has.
The Burdens discussed in this book are the following
-the burden of a lesser God
-the burden of self-reliance
-the burden of discontent
-the burden of weariness
-the burden of worry-----Big chapter.....
-the burden of hopelessness
-the burden of guilt
-the burden of arrogance
-the burden of the grave
-the burden of grief- the reason I read the book
-the burden of fear- another reason to read the book
-the burden of loneliness
-the burden of shame
-the burden of disappointment
-the burden of envy
-the burden of doubt
-the burden of homesickness
Max Lucado manages to bring hope to every burden and aspect of our lives. I know that everyone seeking a path will find some sort of hope when reading this book. It is worth the time and written so well that you'll ready it quickly. Happy READING )!!!
Let me know if the review helped. It certainly gave me perspective......... - Great book to remind us what we should not be carrying with us. The Lord wants us to live free and free from burdens since our Lord died for us to take the burdens from us. I love how funny Max is and he is very real to talk about his struggles and real life issues, he is not afraid to tell on himself or praise himself )
Great author, amazing book. . .a must have on the shelf forever! - Psalm 23 is one of my favorites. Love the fresh insights shared by Max. Lay down the burdens you were never intended to carry and rest in the loving arms of our Savior. This excerpt summarizes it better than I can.
Rest from the burden of a small god. Why? Because I have found the Lord.
Rest from doing things my way. Why? Because the Lord is my Shepherd.
Rest from endless wants. Why? Because I shall not want.
Rest from weariness. Why? Because he makes me to lie down.
Rest from worry. Why? Because he leads me.
Rest from hopelessness. Why? Because he restores my soul.
Rest from guilt. Why? Because he leads me in the paths of righteousness.
Rest from arrogance. Why? Because of his name’s sake.
Rest from the valley of death. Why? Because he walks me through it.
Rest from the shadow of grief. Why? Because he guides me.
Rest from fear. Why? Because his presence comforts me.
Rest from loneliness. Why? Because he is with me.
Rest from shame. Why? Because he has prepared a place for me in the presence of my enemies.
Rest from my disappointments. Why? Because he anoints me.
Rest from envy. Why? Because my cup overflows.
Rest from doubt. Why? Because he follows me.
Rest from homesickness. Why? Because I will dwell in the house of my Lord forever. - We read this book a couple of years ago as part of a bible study. Maybe it was just the right book at the right time but I decided to download it off to the . The ONLY change I would have made would have been to offer the Audible (follow-along) option.
Traveling Light takes Psalms 23 "Our Father who art in Heaven..." and separates it into chapters so that we can see the baggage that we carry in life (such as fear, hopelessness, guilt, arrogance, death, discontent, etc.) and focus on how to give it over to God. Well the topics my seem a little heavy the book is by no means a downer. It is a great read and I would highly recommend it. - While I read this book I laughed, I cried, and I pondered over the wisdom set before me by God through Max Lucado. I have heard the 23rd Psalm preached about or recited more times than I can remember but after reading this book I feel as if God has given me answers to questions I haven’t been able to find anywhere else. Plus I learned facts about shepherding and tending sheep that help me understand the wording of this great Psalm and how it applies to us. Yes, I have heard in other sermons that being compared to sheep is not a compliment. Even so, our Righteous God loves us and takes care of us.
- After my husband's death in 2003 (we were just short of 49 years) this book was such a comfort to me, I gave each of my nine children a copy, and I have given many more away since then, Last year I put it on my kindle so as to have it always accessable. I own many more of the Lucado books and have enjoyed and treasured them all.
- Good book with the awesome message of what God has laid out for us and how we shouldnt worry if we look and follow the path he has created for us. However each chapter seems to just elaborate the same idea to not worry by new stories and examples. By the end of the book it seemed like it was just chapters of the same idea just different examples. Good book though for the price. I will keep reading more Max Lucado books.
- This book is a "modern day" explanation of the 23rd Psalm. I highly recommend it for all youth and adults. It can be read straight through or one chapter at a time, skipping around. It makes an excellent gift to someone who is laden with various of life's burdens. Max Lucado has a fresh and many times, humorous way of writing. He is definitely my favorite Christian author!
